Town Manager resigns July 15; Mike Showers named as interim

Camp Verde Town Manager Miranda Fisher has resigned, according to a letter she sent to local town managers on Thursday, July 9. Her last day is Wednesday, July 15.

“After much reflection on the next chapter of my personal and professional life, including the upcoming arrival of my first child and where my family plans to establish long-term roots, I recently approached the Town Council to discuss a future leadership transition,” Fisher stated. “While my original proposal offered a one-year notice — effective date June 30, 2027 — following discussions with the Council on July 8th, it was determined that July 15th, would be the appropriate effective date for my resignation.

“Between now and the end of the business day on July 15th, I will be focused on transitioning my duties and responsibilities to ensure continuity of operations. Finance Director Mike Showers is serving as acting town manager effective July 9th and will remain in the role while the Town Council works to identify a long-term interim town manager and ultimately the recruitment and selection of the next town manager.”

Fisher’s departure comes just over two years after she took the position. She was hired from a field of 58 applicants after a three-month search, and previously spent three years as town administrator of Nederland, Colorado. Fisher’s was meant to steady the town after her predecessor Ted Soltis resigned in November 2023 after just 103 days. Soltis had replaced Russ Martin, who served 12 years before the council voted 6-1 in 2022 to not to renew his contract. Martin later served as town manager of Florence and is now human resources manager for the city of Sedona.

Fisher acknowledged at onset that she was “walking into a lot of turmoil,” and spent her early months on listening sessions, creating a weekly town newsletter and a citizens’ academy. Her agenda included the sports complex, the $17 million Northbound Sewer Collection System Expansion along State Route 260 and water partnership talks with the Yavapai-Apache Nation.

Town Council is scheduled to have a closed-door executive session on Wednesday, July 15, to discuss Fisher’s resignation and next steps along with legal discussions of the town’s water resources.
