The Clarkdale-Jerome School finally met its volleyball match at home on Halloween.

Although the Mingus Rams [18-2] edged Big Park Community School again at the State Small Schools Volleyball championships, no Verde Valley Conference team could prepare them for the Leupp Public School or Rock Point Community School.

“They’re a good team, but it was like we were afraid,” said Lynda Chavez, head volleyball coach, following the Mingus Rams’ 25-19, 21-25, 11-15 loss to Leupp. “We’re the best hitting team in the tournament and we have good fundamentals.”

Following their third undefeated conference season in Chavez’s 15 years as Mingus Rams head coach, the team did have moments where it responded well to its first loss of the season to the Tigers.
