Police raise funds for K-9 statue

Cottonwood Police Department is considering a statue representing K-9 dogs. Camp Verde Marshal’s Office has a similar memorial to its first K-9, Jake, however Cottonwood’s memorial would be a cast bronze police statue like “The Calling.”

A bronze statue of a police officer was recently unveiled in front of the Cottonwood Public Safety Building on Sixth Street, a memorial to all who have served in the line of duty in law enforcement.

Now, there is an effort to also build a statue of a dog to honor the canines that have often served side-by-side with human officers.

Law Enforcement Creations, a two-man company, was behind the creation of that statue and will also be responsible for the K-9 statue, but they couldn’t do it without the help of the community.

“It’s going to be entirely paid for through donations from people, businesses and organizations in the community,” said Jim Iacovacci, who is one of the two men in the group.
