Verde Christian High School sees 2 wrestling state champions

Verde Christian High School athletes performed at the Canyon Athletic Association State Wrestling Championships, bringing home multiple top placements.

Two students earned the State Champion title: Josie Krakow and Bentley Arnold, each demonstrating exceptional skill and determination throughout the competition. Their victories highlight a season of hard work and consistent excellence on the mat.

The Eagles also celebrated strong performances from state runner-ups Logan Hunt and Jacob McKean, both of whom battled through challenging brackets to secure second place in their respective divisions.

Additional top-five placements included Levi Yarger, who finished fourth, and Blake Quesenberry, who placed fifth, each contributing points to the team’s overall showing.

Rounding out the roster was state qualifier Tanner Ecklor.

The VVHS team is lead by coach Mario Chagolla Sr. Born and raised in Peoria, Chagolla coached the Camp Verde High School wrestling team for 28 years and the Mingus Union High School team for seven years before joining Verde Christian High School last fall.

Coaches and families expressed pride in the team’s achievements, noting the athletes’ commitment, discipline and sportsmanship throughout the season, according to a press release.

Verde Christian High School congratulated all its wrestlers for an outstanding year and an exceptional performance at the State Championships, the press release stated. The athletes’ accomplishments continue to elevate the school’s athletic tradition and inspire younger competitors within the program.
