During the boys game that directly followed, the No. 1 ranked Eagles beat the No. 6 ranked Cowboys 70-57.
“They’re a good team, so they got a lot of shooters and a couple kids that are extremely tough,” Head Coach Dan Wall said. “I thought our kids competed extremely well tonight.”
He said the main thing the team’s working on is getting the ball into the basket.

“We shot it a little bit better tonight than we have been, which is good,” Wall said. “We need to keep getting better every day.”
While the Cowboys were down for most of the game, the players were still bent on playing their best.
Sophomore Alex Ruiz said he was just focused on the ball and trying his best to get it across the court.
Sophomore Manny Tena said they’ve been working on “being connected, mentally” with the rest of the team.
Tena said his goal is to not lose any more games this season. After the Tuesday game, the team had four games.
“I was really happy with the kids running good offense tonight,” Wall said. “They cut well, they set good screens, got themselves good looks.”

The Cowboys were down by 16 points, after which the Eagles made a few more baskets, bringing the lead to 20 points, the Cowboys began to close it up, but weren’t able to overtake the Eagles.
“Hats off to Scottsdale,” Wall said. “They did a great job.”
The Cowboys lost to the Northland Prep Spartans in Flagstaff 61-55 on Thursday, Jan. 29.
The girls played the Spartans preceding the boys’ game. The boys remain ranked sixth in the region.
“They’re a great bunch of kids, and I’m happy with their growth this year,” Wall said. The roster for this season includes 11 players. Four are seniors. The varsity team has no freshmen.
The boys and girls teams had away games after press time on Friday, Jan. 30, against the Madison Highland Heat and Monday, Feb. 2, against Rancho Solano Prep Mustangs.
Camp Verde basketball will host its senior night on its last game of the regular season, at home on Thursday, Feb. 5, starting at 4 p.m. The girls game against the Scottsdale Prep Spartans begins at 5:30 and the boys game is scheduled for 7 p.m.
