Men’s softball teams lay wood for playoffs

Large Verde River mosquitoes dully winged their way down from the harsh white lights of Fields 1 and 2 at Riverfront Park on Monday, Oct. 13.

They were brushed away as an afterthought by the eight softball teams slugging it out for position in the Cottonwood Parks and Recreation department’s slow-pitch men’s softball league playoffs, which begin Monday, Oct. 20.

In their final series of 55-minute regular-season games, the wood bats of K.P. Ventures would do the most damage in a 25-5 extermination of the Dirty Rats of Arizona Rodent Solutions.

“It’s a trophy that we’re working for,” said Marty White, Ventures head coach. “If we get a trophy, I give it to the sponsor, and hopefully he’ll sponsor us again next year.”
