Cottonwood Middle School is letting local runners run free at six meets for the Lobos this fall.

Beginning at Camp Verde Middle School on Wednesday, Aug. 20, at 4 p.m., first-year coach Justin Boyd and assistant coach Jason Ruechel will be taking five runners from Mountain View Preparatory Academy and an Oak Creek Ranch School runner – eighth-grader Jesus Rodriguez – with 14 CMS students to run at Verde Valley Conference meets as well as the Yavapai County Championships in Chino Valley on Oct. 1.

“It’s going to be exciting,” said Boyd, who has helped Mingus Union High School coach Jim Bostwick at cross country meets since 2010. “It’s a learning experience, that’s for sure.”

After recording times with Boyd at a few track meets in Sedona last spring, Ruechel followed him to CMS.
