Little League champs fail to stop Prescott in tourney championship

Published:

The Diamondbacks of Verde Valley Little League’s Majors Division hadn’t met a team they couldn’t beat — until Sunday, June 8, at the title game of the District 10 Tournament of Champions in Wickenburg.

“They’re really good,” head coach Brandon Figy said of Jim’s Auto of Prescott, which won the championship over his team in five innings, 15-5. “They had three games and they run-ruled two of them.”

It was only the second loss of the spring for the Diamondbacks [16-2], who were forced to forfeit a regular-season make-up game Friday, June 6, against the second-place Rangers since Figy’s team was already in Wickenburg preparing for the three-day tournament.

“We just try and control what we can control by doing the best we can every time out,” Figy said. “Every player, one to 12, contributed to get us to the championship game at the end of the season.”
