Swimming holes soothe away summer scorch

Parsons Spring along the Verde River in Sycamore Canyon is about a 3.7-mile hike, most of which is shaded, with a couple of water crossings. The water is deep enough to allow diving from the high cliffs of the canyon.

With temperatures regularly topping 100 degrees all over the Verde Valley, residents and visitors alike can take this time to escape the heat by rediscovering the cool swimming holes of Camp Verde, Cottonwood and Sedona.

"The Crack," a deep pool on Wet Beaver Creek, is less than a 15-mile drive and three-mile hike from Camp Verde.

For full directions and descriptions of the top four swimming holes in each of these areas, please see the Wednesday, June 11, issues of the Camp Verde Journal and Cottonwood Journal Extra.
