The Cottonwood Police Department announced on Dec. 11 that Officer Andres Cervantes has graduated from the Northern Arizona Regional Training Academy and has been honored with the J. Stewart Honor Recruit Award.
Officer Cervantes completed the 21-week police academy program and, during the graduation ceremony, he was recognized with the Tyler J. Stewart Honor Recruit Award, presented to the recruit who best exemplifies professionalism, character and dedication.
The award was established in memory of Flagstaff Police Officer Tyler Stewart, a NARTA graduate who was killed in the line of duty in 2014. The award is chosen by fellow recruits and represents the highest peer recognition for embodying the values Officer Stewart demonstrated throughout his career and training.
Officer Cervantes is now the newest member of the Cottonwood Police Department and will begin a four-month field training program. During this period, he will work alongside experienced training officers to continue developing his skills before serving as a solo patrol officer.
“We congratulate Officer Cervantes on his outstanding achievement and welcome him to the Cottonwood Police Department,” the department wrote in a social media post.
