Shooting in Rimrock leaves VOC man dead

A 25-year-old Village of Oak Creek man was fatally shot Sunday night, June 26, at a home in Rimrock.

Around 11:15 p.m. Sunday night, Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to the 3900 block of Meadow Lane in Rimrock, regarding an reported assault, according to YCSO.

A fatal shooting occured in the 3900 block of Meadow Lane, Rimrock, late Sunday, June 26.According to YCSO Media Relations Coordinator Dwight D’Evelyn, the 25-year-old man and his 23-year male roommate went to the location to confront a 52-year-old who is the 25-year-old’s estranged stepfather regarding an ongoing family dispute. A 17-year-old boy, who also reportedly lives at the Meadow Lane home and is reportedly the 25-year-old’s half-brother, was also involved, according to D’Evelyn.

The victim’s sister called to indentify the 25-year-old man as Kris Desmond.

During a confrontation, the stepson allegedly attacked his stepfather, reportedly resulting in multiple injuries, including an apparent orbital fracture, YCSO stated. The 17-year-old boy was also allegedly attacked, with unknown injuries at this time, according to YCSO.

The alleged assault eventually stopped and the stepson and his roommate allegedly refused to leave, according to YCSO. The stepfather allegedly grabbed a handgun and reportedly shot both of them, YCSO stated.

The stepson died from his injuries, according to YCSO, while the roommate was shot in the groin and was treated and later released.

YCSO detectives have been on scene throughout Monday, June 27, gathering evidence. The firearm was recovered.

No arrests have been made and no names have yet been released, according to D’Evelyn.

YCSO detectives are considering several issues in the case, including the possibility the stepfather may have fired in self-defense, according to D’Evelyn.
