Mandatory water restrictions in Jerome

A mandatory water restriction is in place in Jerome.

Approved by a majority vote of the Jerome Town Council on June 22, Resolution 537 imposes “restrictions on water irrigation and sprinkling” and declares an emergency. The stated reason for doing so reads, “the town is currently experiencing a water shortage due, in large part, to extended drought conditions.”

The rules are as follows:

1. Irrigation, plant watering and sprinkling shall not take place between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m., and shall be limited to a maximum of 45 minutes for the use of sprinklers and hoses, or four hours for the use of a low-flow drip irrigation system. Water usage for irrigation shall not exceed 450 gallons per 24-hour period.

2. Watering days shall be coordinated with the property address. Even numbered addresses may irrigate only on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. Odd numbered addresses may irrigate only on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. For places where there is no discernible address, the even date schedule shall be followed. No irrigation shall be allowed on Monday, except by the town.

3. No vehicle washing or watering down of sidewalks, parking areas, etc. shall take place at any time.

4. No filling of pools, spas or water features shall take place at any time.

5. These restrictions shall be effective immediately and shall remain in place until rescinded by formal action of the town council.

6. Violation of these restrictions shall be subject to penalties as follows:

a. First violation – $25 fine

b. Second violation – $100 fine

c. Third violation – $250 fine

d. Fourth violation – $250 fine plus water service shut off, with the provision that all outstanding penalties must be paid prior to reconnection of water services.
