Farmers markets open in Valley

Lillian Wasden and her brother Alistair are busy selling their home-grown, organic peaches on Monday, June 9, at the Cornville Farmers Market, held in Windmill Park. The Wasdens’ peaches are fed only water and sunlight, with no pesticides, and were fresh picked the morning of the market.

The temperatures may be rising, but on the other hand, this time of year means there are plenty of opportunities to get some fresh and locally-grown produce.

It’s farmers market season here in the Verde Valley.

Several farmers markets have already kicked off this month but the one in Cottonwood is still a month away.

The annual Cottonwood Farmers Market Jamboree is set to kick off Thursday, July 10, said Jack Teel with the Cottonwood Parks and Recreation Department, and will run every Thursday through Oct. 2.

The market starts at 5 p.m. and lasts into the evening, with many sticking around for the live music in the Cottonwood Activity Park.
