Town weighs how to use federal community grant

The public of Camp Verde is asked to help prioritize projects funded through the Community Development Block Grant. One area suggested for improvement is adding a sidewalk to Seventh Street leading to Finnie Flat Road. However, the project would be costly and has not been pre-qualified.

The Town of Camp Verde is looking at possible projects to fund with federal money from Community Development Block Grants.

CDBGs, started in the 1970s,  are issued by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The agency has handed out billions of dollars in such grants to local governments and municipalities from coast to coast for projects that will benefit areas lived in by predominantly low- to mid-income levels.

The money has to be used for at least one of three defined national objectives, according to a report from the Camp Verde Town Clerk’s Office.
