State Route 260 is shaping up nicely and on schedule, according to Arizona Department of Transportation Public Information Officer Ryan Harding.
After months of seeing mostly the movement of dirt and construction vehicles, permanent paving on the newly constructed eastbound roadway from Wilshire Road to Horseshoe Bend Drive has begun. Drainage features, box culverts and bridge stanchions are completed and under construction.
The total span of construction now extends from Interstate 17 to the Prescott National Forest Hayfield Draw OHV Day Use Area.
“Currently, no roads are restricted with the exception of an occasional lane closure overnight,” Harding said, adding that grading work has begun on the roundabout at Horseshoe Bend Drive where it is possible to do so without impacting traffic.
“It’s the earliest stages and again, it’s being done without any impacts to traffic,” Harding said. “We’ll give drivers a heads up before we get to a point where traffic will shift in order to further work on the roundabout.”
Work on yet another roundabout is in sight: Harding said that ADOT anticipates starting work at the planned Cherry Creek Road roundabout in several weeks.
“The intersection will be relocated slightly west and will be controlled by a temporary signal,” Harding said. “That will allow us to construct that roundabout and maintain access to the homes and businesses served by that intersection.”
According to Harding, ADOT is working with the Town of Camp Verde as the latter installs six sewer line crossings and 665 linear feet of eight-inch force main sewer line within the 260 improvement project. That construction extends from Cherry Creek Road to Horseshoe Bend Drive. Harding said the sewer work has not impacted the 260 improvement project.

| ADOT’s improvement project upgrades nine miles of State Route 260 to a fourlane divided highway, stretching from Thousand Trails Road — where the two-mile length of divided highway that extends from the edge of Cottonwood ends — to the roundabout on State Route 260 east of I-17 at Industrial Drive in Camp Verde. That roundabout construction began last year and was completed earlier this summer.
