Kidnapping victims found in Clarkdale, car in river, suspect arrested

Update 4:01: Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office detectives have confirmed they located the missing mother and her son at a home in the 500 block of N. Broadway, Clarkdale.

The stolen Dodge Charger was found floating in the Verde River a few miles from the Broadway home, according to YCSO. The car had been rented by the homeowner at the Village Drive location. Evidence technicians are on scene now and expect to recover the vehicle soon.

YCSO detectives have arrested a male suspect residing at the Broadway home for his involvement in the car theft. It does appear this suspect has some involvement with the mother allegedly kidnapped this morning and was present during the altercation on Village Drive in Cottonwood, according to YCSO.

This part of the investigation remains active as there may have been an altercation between the suspect and female before the Dodge Charger was stolen, according to YCSO.

A woman believed to be in her 30s and a 14-year-old boy, possible her son, were kidnapped at gunpoint from 2653 and 2657 Village Drive, in Verde Village Unit 2 around 6 a.m., Friday, Feb. 19.

Update: 2:20 p.m. Feb. 19: The Neon involved has been found and police are following leads on the location of the Dodge Charger. THe police would like to thank the public for providing information and note that the vehicles are no longer wanted.

Interviews with the mother and her son are ongoing in an attempt to determine if criminal activity occurred in front of the Village Drive home this morning. The involved parties have been slow to provide details about the circumstances.

Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office is on scene in the 2653 and 2657 Village Drive, Cottonwood, regarding an apparent kidnapping incident that occurred around 6 a.m. YCSO detectives sought help from the public in locating the victims, suspects and two vehicles involved.

YCSO detectives announced at 1:15 that “Samantha” and her son, who were apparently kidnapped this morning, have been located in Clarkdale in good condition.

Detectives are interviewing the pair to determine the circumstances regarding the incident this morning. Detectives are still looking for both suspect vehicles. The suspects’ identities are pending as detectives attempt to sort out the circumstances.

Please call 911 to report any information to help investigators locate the suspects.

“I believe we had three separate calls to dispatch,” said Lt. Tom Boelts, of the Yavapai Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Bureau, adding that one caller knew the female victim.

Asked if the victims had been inside the 2600 block Village Drive buildings in question, Boelts answered, “We believe they were outside.”

The suspect vehicle may be in the company of a silver Dodge Neon, unknown license plate. The Neon may contain two adult males.

A 14-year-old male was apparently kidnapped during the confrontation. The 14-year-old is the son of “Samantha” who was forced into the stolen Dodge Charger before being driven away.

Detectives are working to identify these suspects and updates will be provided as soon as possible. Suspects are considered armed and dangerous.

Suspects could possibly be in the area of Cottonwood and Camp Verde.
