Beginning at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, June 18, Yavapai County planned to enact Stage 2 fire restrictions for zone two, including Sedona, Camp Verde and parts of the Verde Valley and surrounding communities in unincorporated areas.
These restrictions were enacted preemptively by an interim order signed by Chairwoman of the Board of Supervisors Mary Mallory on June 17, and will be presented for formal approval by the Yavapai County Board of Supervisors at their next meeting on July 2.
As a reminder, zones three, four and five remain under Stage 2 fire restrictions that were enacted on May 23. The Department of Forestry and Fire Management, Bureau of Land Management and Tonto National Forest are also under Stage 2 fire restrictions. Zone 1 and the Prescott National Forest remain under Stage 1 fire restrictions.
Activities prohibited include:
- Igniting, building, maintaining or using any type of fire fueled by combustible materials such as wood, charcoal, briquettes or coal. Portable stoves, wood pellet smokers, grills, fire rings or other pressurized liquid petroleum gas devices that can be turned on and off are allowed if located at a developed site as defined in the ordinance.
- Smoking outdoors. Smoking is permitted within enclosed vehicles or at a developed site as defined in the ordinance.
- Using internal combustion engines for activities such as landscaping, property maintenance or household repairs. Internal combustion engines equipped with spark arresting devices may be operated for household-only activities, including landscaping, property maintenance or repair.
- Use of explosive targets, tracer rounds or incendiary ammunition
- Outdoor mechanical and industrial operations, including welding and the use of acetylene or other torches with open flames
In addition, the use of permissible consumer fireworks is prohibited. This applies to both public and private property across all fire ban zones in Yavapai County. Fireworks, even legal ones, pose a serious wildfire risk and are not permitted while restrictions are in place.
These fire restrictions will remain in effect until wildfire risk levels decrease. Fire agencies and safety agencies involved in this decision will collectively determine when conditions permit lifting the fire ban.
