Tax numbers up in most of valley

Published:

Taxable economic activity is up across the Verde Valley.

Numbers for October were released this month by the Arizona Department of Revenue Office of Economic Research and Development.

The office keeps track of how much the state takes in from municipalities in transaction taxes, revenue collected from a wide range of economic activity, from retail sales and hotel visits to construction and real estate deals.

With the exception of Jerome, towns across the area showed signs of increased economic activity for the month, compared with the same time last year.

The office of revenue keeps records based on the fiscal year, which for local governments begins July 1.

In Cottonwood, total tax revenues generated for the month were just over $1 million, compared with around $920,000 the previous October.

Any increase in retail spending helped boost the numbers, with around $50,000 more in sales taxes collected at just under $640,000.
