Marauders tennis players head to state tournament on Friday, May 2

Mingus Union High School will send four players to the 2025 Arizona Interscholastic Association Tennis Division II Championship — two singles and a doubles team.

Singles

Senior Dani Khin will represent the Mingus Union girls in singles competition, finishing the season with a 23-5 overall record, including a 14-3 singles record. Her performance helped the Marauders achieve an 11-3 record. Khin will compete against Brynn Larson from Kingman’s Lee Williams High School.

Sophomore Adam Larson will represent the MUHS boys in singles competition. Larson completed the season with a 21-7 record, including a 12-4 singles record.

The Marauders boys team finished with an 11-4 record and a No. 24 ranking in Division II, according to azpreps365, the AIA’s official website.

Larson’s first-round match will be against Betty H. Fairfax High School senior Giovanny Romo. Betty H. Fairfax is one of two Phoenix Union High School District high schools in the Laveen district of Phoenix.

Doubles Team

Mingus is also sending sent a doubles team to the state tournament. The girls pair of senior Nera Benavides and junior Lana Booth, who went 8-3 as a duo this season, will take on the Tucson’s Cholla High School teammates Paloma Campos and Keyra Valenzuela in the first round.

The Mingus girls doubles match at 1:30 p.m., Friday, May 2. Both singles matches will take place on Friday, May 2, with Larson at 9 a.m. and Khin at 11:45 a.m. All matches will take place at the Gene Autry Park Tennis Center, 4125 E McKellips Road, in Mesa.
