The Town of Camp Verde is looking at the future of expanding sewer service along State Route 260 all the way out to Coury Drive.
The town looked at possibilities in a 2007 master plan, but then the recession came and things were put on hold, Town Manager Russ Martin said.
“[The town] spent significant amount of money on a master plan to provide sewer out there,” Martin said.
Since then, State Route 260 has been put on the schedule for expansion by the Arizona Department of Transportation.
The Town of Camp Verde led an effort to show ADOT it was dedicated to seeing the road improved, working to get local communities on board with the plan.
Last year, the ADOT board voted to include the project in its five-year plan, setting aside the money to for the work.
The board allocated $4 million for design work in 2014 and $62 million for eventual construction, now planned for 2016.
An effort was made several years ago to see a four-lane divided highway between Cottonwood and Camp Verde, a heavily traveled road both for people heading to Cottonwood and for people trying to reach Interstate 17.
That effort fell apart when the communities and landowners involved couldn’t reach a consensus.
