Marauders dominate North for first victory

The Mingus High School football team must have been chowing down on spinach last week because, as Popeye would say, the Marauders were strong to the finach on Friday night.

Fast out of the gate, they kept the pace, then took a quick glance over their shoulder before finishing strong to beat visiting North High School, 40-14, for their first win Friday, Sept. 19.

It was no small feat for a team that had been outscored 59-7 in the second half of their three losses, and whose coach had bemoaned their lack of late-game stamina. As the Mustangs narrowed a 26-point deficit to 12 with most of the fourth quarter still to go, a hint of déjà vu hung in the muggy air at Bright Field. But the Marauders refused to wilt.
