Departments make budget wishes

Published:

The Cottonwood City Council spent two nights last week preparing to finalize the 2014-15 budget.

The council began by discussing budgets for departments like the city clerk’s office and information technology, then later in the week looked at other areas.

Administrative Services Manager Rudy Rodriguez reviewed what the city’s economic development department has done during the current fiscal year.

The department is looking for $10,000 extra to help pay for another five-year economic development plan. APS is willing to pay for the rest of the $43,000 project.

The Cottonwood Police Department is requesting funding for an additional records clerk.

Another budget work session is scheduled for Thursday, June 5, at 6 p.m. in the city council chambers on Main Street.

The session will include discussion about departments like public works and funding for outside agencies that provide core services, like Catholic Charities and the Cottonwood Senior Center.

The budget must be approved by Tuesday, July 1, the beginning of the next fiscal year.

The current general fund budget is just under $22 million.
