Hoopsters dominate Cougars at both ends of court

Published:

The Camp Verde High School girls basketball team put together a complete game for the first time this season, and the final result was an impressive looking victory.

In a 53-16 dismantling of the Chino Valley Cougars, the Cowboys defense allowed just five first-half points while the offense, led by post player Mariah Daniels and guards Rayana Chatter and Maddy Showers, seemed to score almost at will.

Daniels, in particular, looked unstoppable inside, outscoring the Cougars single-handedly with 19 points and adding seven rebounds, five steals and two blocked shots.

“Mariah has been a little soft up to this point, and I challenged her,” said Camp Verde girls basketball head coach Mark Showers. “I told her that she has the talent and the ability to control any game she plays in, and so she got after it tonight, and that’s exactly what we needed.”
