‘Blue Trail’ may come to Verde River

Published:

Doug Von Gausig, mayor of Clarkdale and executive director of the Verde River Institute, has been working to garner support around the Verde Valley for creating a “Blue Trail” for the river, a designation from the nonprofit American Rivers organization designed to protect and enhance recreation opportunities for the river.

“Through the creation of a Blue Trail, we will raise awareness about the river and the benefits it provides, build support within the community for flow protections and boost the local economy by providing important opportunities for residents and visitors to enjoy it through recreation,” is the stated mission of the program.

Von Gausig said at a Camp Verde Town Council work session, Oct. 9, that he wasn’t working on this project as the mayor of Clarkdale, but rather as a consultant for American Rivers. Von Gausig said that he was interested in working with elected leaders and property owners to make sure everyone’s needs were addressed.
