56th Fort Verde Days draws crowds

Published:

A Ferris wheel sparkled at night, rising above the buildings in downtown Camp Verde last weekend as screams of delight could be heard from children taking advantage of other carnival rides on the old football field.

The weather was fantastic with not a cloud to be seen as crowds flocked downtown to experience the 56th annual Fort Verde Days.

This year, the festival organizers chose First Responders to be the grand marshals for the parade, which moved down Main Street on Saturday morning, Oct. 13.

Camp Verde Promotions is the group that picked up and ran with organizing Fort Verde Days when the town decided to stop sponsoring local events due to financial concerns.

This was the fourth year the group has worked to run the festival.

This year, the committee selected First Responders to lead the parade as the collective grand marshal, in an effort to publicly recognize the valuable services provided by the men and women who work as police officers, firefighters, paramedics, emergency medical technicians and others who are there day or night when they’re called.
