Mingus nearly shuts out Bradshaw Mountain

Published:

The Marauders resounding defense dominated the gridiron Friday night, giving Mingus Union a confidence-boosting win.

MUHS football [1-1] took back their victory over the Bradshaw Mountain Bears [1-2] from last year’s loss, beating them 23-7 on Friday, Aug. 31. The Bears’ only touchdown was scored in the last 30 seconds of the game, allowing them to avoid a shutout.

With a young, small Bears offensive line — nine sophomores started on the line Friday night — and an entire new coaching staff combined with the Marauders love of blitzing, Bradshaw Mountain had a tough time taking a stand against Mingus Union’s powerful defense. The Marauders defense prevented the Bears offense from making any big plays until the end of the third quarter and even had two defensive scores.

“They were outstanding,” MUHS Head Coach Bob Young said. “The defense just throttled them until right to the end, so they set the tone to everything.

“They gave us field position, and they gave us the ball. They just looked really good tonight.”
