Cottonwood city staff has been working together to make code enforcement more efficient and friendly over the past several months, taking a more active, personal approach to reduce the number of costly hearings as well as aggravation from local residents.
Code enforcement officers now spend more time around the city, approaching possible code violators and personally talking to them about the steps they need to take to comply with city ordinances before sending a letter demanding compliance.
“We are being real proactive, but we’re probably solving 80 to 90 percent of code violations without going to a hearing,” Cottonwood Development Services Manager Dan Lueder said.
“Once you send a letter off, that starts the expensive part of code enforcement,” he said.
