Candidate Jackie Baker shares her experiences

Published:

Jackie Baker is running unopposed for one of three seats on the Camp Verde Town Council. She served previously on council until she ran for mayor in 2018.

  • Why are you qualified to be on the Camp Verde Town Council?

I have 17 years of service on council, which afforded me the opportunity to gain knowledge of resources avail- able throughout our state and federal agencies that can be very helpful to Camp Verde; 12 years as an elected trustee on the Arizona Municipal Risk Retention Pool; liaison to Northern Arizona Council of Governments for 15 years, serving as secretary-treasurer and vice chairwoman of that organization that serves four Northern Arizona counties [Apache, Coconino, Navajo and Yavapai counties].

  • What makes Camp Verde great?

Our location provides a perfect year-round climate; our incomparable history and priceless artifacts which, by the way, are still being discovered. Priceless, as well, our residents who are quick to volunteer whenever needed and who appreciate and do their best to protect our natural resources.

  • What will be different with you on council?

Bringing the experience and knowledge gained through the years to share with council, and to continue interaction with residents to hear their concerns, needs and ideas.

  • How will you help with recovery of the economy and coronavirus issues?

Put into action the existing economic plans that have been developed with input from business people and residents. As far as the coronavirus, we need to continue following Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines and work closely with our local health care and medical facilities.

  • How do you hope to keep Camp Verde affordable to residents?

By focusing on economic development and strong marketing techniques, it will provide the interest to bring needed businesses and jobs to our community.

Incumbent Councilwoman Jessie Murdock and newcomer Christine McPhail are running for the other two open seats and will be featured in an upcoming edition.
