Man shot and killed by police responding to domestic violence call in Cottonwood

Cottonwood police officers were dispatched to the area of Viejo and Fir Street in response to a reported domestic violence incident the evening of Sunday, April 27, according to CPD Sgt. Chad Sinn.

Upon arrival, officers reportedly learned that a male subject involved in the incident was inside a closed room, Sinn stated. As officers were working to safely remove other occupants from the residence, the male subject emerged, leading to an officer-involved shooting.

A shotgun was recovered next to the subject’s body according to Sinn. The subject died the scene. No officers were injured during the incident.

The name of the suspect and the officers involved have not yet been released. The investigation remains active and ongoing, Sinn stated.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety’s Major Incident Division is leading the investigation. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.

The Cottonwood Police Department thanks the public for their patience, understanding, and continued support as investigators complete their work, Sinn stated.
