The Camp Verde Town Council awarded a $311,920 contract to Voss Lighting of Phoenix for the installation of new lighting at the Camp Verde Sports Complex on March 19.
The contract included $94,950 for walkway lighting and $216,970 for parking lot lighting.
“We have been doing research concerning hardwire electric versus solar, and we have come to the determination that solar is really the route to go,” Capital Improvements Project Manager Martin Smith said. “We were looking for a product that would give us the longevity that we need. It’s the durability that would stand up to the environment that it is in and we believe that we have found that product.”
Smith said the contract would cover the installation of nine solar lights along the pedestrian walkway, between the two ball fields and around the concession stand, as well as 15 dual light poles for the parking lot. “We currently have a liability for trips and falls because people just can’t see on the walkway and in the parking lot,” Smith said.
Smith also made the case that federal tariff policy would prevent Voss Lighting from guaranteeing its pricing for more than one month and said that the solar panels they are proposing for the installation would be designed to survive in the Arizona sun. He estimated that installation of the lights would take 10 days.
The council approved the contract unanimously.
