Marines, come join us in celebrating the 249th Marine Corps birthday on Saturday, Nov. 9, at American Legion Post No. 25, 480 S. Calvary Way in Cottonwood. The event begins at 5:30 p.m. with a happy half-hour. For dinner, your choice of prime rib or chicken breast will be catered by The Krow beginning at 6 p.m. There will be awards for detachment members, guests and Toys for Tots workers.

We are honored to have Judith Patton, Ph.D., Col. [Ret] USAFR, as our guest speaker. Her presentation will be as interesting as her experiences. Patton retired from the United States Air Force Reserve in 2014, having supported Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. Her decorated military career spanned more than 32 years, included three medical commands and ended at the Office of the Air Force Surgeon General in Washington, D.C., where she was awarded the Legion of Merit.

As a medical services officer in the Air Force Medical Service, she supported aeromedical evacuation efforts during the bombing of the U.S.S. Cole in 2000 and the Mosul dining hall bombing in 2004. Patton lives in Sedona with her husband, a decorated Vietnam War veteran.

Following Patton’s talk, as tradition dictates, the birthday cake will be cut and shared by the oldest and youngest Marines. The evening will conclude with the Toys for Tots silent auction and raffle winners being announced. For further information or to make a reservation, contact keithvogler@gmail.com or (928)301-7358.
