Candidate: Bill Tinnin, Cottonwood resident of 41 years

Age: 70

Current or past profession: Realtor

Q: Why are you qualified to serve on council?

A: “I feel that my qualifications are: Shortly after high school graduation in 1972 I joined the U.S. Army and spent four years in military intelligence in Berlin, Germany.

“I spent 13 years on the Cottonwood Airport Commission as the only non-pilot. I also spent 10 or 12 years as a cop’s member with the Cottonwood Police Department.

“I am at present the commander of the American Legion Post No. 25 in Cottonwood; I’m starting my 11th year.”

Q: How should the city bring more affordable housing into the area, and balance the growth of businesses and new residents?

A: “The affordable housing and balance of business I believe would be a matter of individual negotiations with each of the entities.”

Q: What is your vision for economic development in Cottonwood?

A: “Personally my vision of growth is that I hope Cottonwood will always be a small town.

“I know that growth is necessary but needs to be controlled.”

Q: How should the city change events to reflect the city’s changing demographics?

A: “I think that some of the proposed event changes are wrong and can be handled much better.”

Q: How will you rebuild public trust and confidence in Cottonwood City Council?

A: “To build trust and confidence with the Cottonwood residents, I believe should be with openness and facts combined with honesty.”

Alyssa Smith

Alyssa Smith was born and raised in Maryland, earning her degree in Media Studies from the University of North Carolina Greensboro after a period of traveling out West. She spent her high school and early college years focusing on music journalism, interviewing, photographing and touring with bands and musicians. Her passion is analog photography and she loves photographing the scenes of Jerome, where she resides. Her love of the Southwest brought her to the reporter position at Larson Newspapers where she enjoys hiking with her dog along the Verde River and through the desert’s red rocks.
