The Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office has been receiving phone calls and emails recently from residents of Yavapai County stating that they were contacted by someone identifying themselves as an employee of YCSO, according to actual YCSO Public Affairs and Government Relations Director Kristin Greene.
Each caller identified the same phone number as “(928) 361-9187.”
“I can assure you that isn’t us,” Greene stated. “The sheriff’s office will never contact you to discuss obligations,” such as missed jury duty, regarding the Arizona or county courts.
Such court-related calls are handled by the court clerks, when applicable never the YCSO nor other law enforcement agencies.
“Nor will we ever call you to collect payment or fines for anything.” Greene added. “Nor will we ever threaten you with arrest. Nor will we, or any law enforcement agency, call or contact you in any way for a solicitation.”
“Should anyone receive a similar phone call or email, YCSO recommends that you do not answer the phone if you do not recognize the phone number,” Greene stated. “Let it go to voice mail, and, if the scammer claims to be the Sheriff’s Office, or anyone of authority, go online and look up the real phone number.”
As a reminder, do not call the number they give you, always call the actual number to confirm. The YCSO front desk phone number is (928) 771-3260. The YCSO Fraud Department’s phone number is (928) 771-3299.
If you can, save the recording of the voicemail and provide it law enforcement.
