On Nov. 13, the Camp Verde Marshal’s Office reportedly received an allegation of possible sexual abuse of a juvenile.
Once CMVO detectives completed their investigation, they took into custody 43-year-old David Edward Castillo, who is being charged with one count of sexual abuse.
Castillo is currently being held in the Yavapai County Detention Center in Camp Verde on a $75,000 bond. His intial arraignment took place Monday, Dec. 4, in the Verde Valley Justice Court.
Due to the nature of the allegations, the CVMO stated in a Nov. 30 post on Facebook that detectives will continue researching potential victims from Castillo’s past, stretching back over 10 years. Castillo is a long-term Camp Verde resident. He is the owner of Central Arizona Sports and Physical Therapy, a licensed physical therapist and coach of the Camp Verde High School girls cross country team. He also coached youth club soccer teams.
Anyone with additional information regarding Castillo’s possible conduct is urged to contact the Camp Verde Marshal’s Office at (928) 554-8300 to speak with a detective in the criminal investigation’s unit, Camp Verde Marshal Corey Rowley at corey.rowley@campverde.az.gov or Patrol Cmdr. Daniel Jacobs at daniel.jacobs@campverde.az.gov. Potential victims or witnesses can also go to the CVMO headquarters at 646 S. First St., in Camp Verde.
CMVO did not provide any press statements to the public, only posting the notice to its Facebook page and did not contact local media to advise them of the arrest, despite the seriousness of the allegations. There is also no notice about the arrest on the CVMO’s website, which has not been updated since 2016. CVMO did not indicate why this information was only viewable on the CVMO Facebook page.
Camp Verde Unified School District Superintendent Steve Hicks issued a statement, posted the CVUSD website:
“Dear CVUSD Families and Staff,

Upon receiving a report of the alleged conduct, the Camp Verde Unified School District immediately contacted local law enforcement. The alleged incident did not take place on school grounds. Due to the ongoing investigation, we cannot share further details at this time.
Mr. Castillo has been informed that he will not be allowed on school property and will be prohibited from contacting students.
We will continue to fully cooperate with the police investigation. Anyone with information relevant to the investigation is asked to call the Camp Verde Marshal’s Office at (928) 554-8300.
