John Lafe Phelps, of Cottonwood, died Oct. 8.
Born in Mesa, he worked as a teacher and computer programmer.
He is survived by his wife, Carolynn Huber Phelps; children Elena [Mark] Melin; Karl [Laura Boyle], Paula [Cameron] Nielsen and Glen; and 10 grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to a favorite charity.

She holds a bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Nebraska at Omaha and worked in corporate communications in insurance and health care for several years, handling marketing and public relations duties. A fur-mom to two cats and three dogs, she is semi-retired.
