A 13-year old Camp Verde Middle School student was arrested and charged for making terrorist threats to the school. On Tuesday, Dec. 7, at approximately 7:20 a.m., Camp Verde Marshal’s Office deputies and Yavapai Apache Police Department officers responded to the Camp Verde Middle School after the Camp Verde Unified School District superintendent reported that someone was “threatening to shoot up the school” via social media page, according to a press release released around 3:30 p.m.
The 13-year-old boy was contacted and interviewed and reportedly admitted he was in fact looking at suspicious websites on school computers while in class but denied making any statements that he wanted to cause harm to the school or anyone.
Originally there was a “Social Media Posting” saying that someone was going to shoot up the school, which is why CVMO deputies responded to the school, according to a CVMO spokesman. During the investigation, deputies learned that there was no threat of any shooting to take place, however, there was information discovered that the student made threats of “bombing the school.”
There was no weapon on the school grounds, the spokesman added.
At this time, the boy is being charged with making terrorist threats and is being held at the Yavapai County Juvenile Detention Center in Prescott.
Even though parents arrived at the school to remove their child, based off the original media posting, there was no immediate threat to the school and no one was injured.
This investigation is still ongoing, according to CVMO.
