YCSO, Verde Valley SWAT arrest wanted fugitive in barricaded home

Published:

Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office personnel were in the Verde Villages responded to the location of a fugitive barricaded in a home on Cedar Lane on Tuesday, Nov. 23. The 19-year-old fugitive, Daniel Lopez, was taken into custody at 2:40 p.m.

Lopez had a warrant out for his arrest for aggravated assault with a weapon and other felony charges out of Coconino County. He had been monitored by multiple agencies including the U.S. Marshal’s Office, turned on his previously inactive phone at approximately 2 a.m. today, which allowed law enforcement to pinpoint his location to within 7 meters of the home where he had later barricaded himself.

Three YCSO detectives and the U.S. Marshal’s Office Fugitive Task Force had been on scene surveilling the home since the early morning hours and were finally able to confirm that Lopez was in the home this afternoon.

YCSO SWAT was called out to secure the area around the home and to assist with negotiations for Lopez’s surrender. He was taken into custody after he fled on foot from the home and was stopped by SWAT members, who had a perimeter set up as part the of the area security.

As a precaution, YCSO deputies were also on scene at Mountain View School, which is near the barricade scene, to ensure the safe release of students and faculty as the school day was ending, which coincided with the sighting of the fugitive.

Detectives escorted children who lived in the area of Cedar Lane to a secure location to meet with parents.

“This is another example of the effective collaboration between law enforcement agencies, and the power of partnership to bring in dangerous fugitives” Yavapai County Sheriff David Rhodes stated in a press release.
