Camp Verde Marshal’s Office detectives arrested Cameron Guillen, 22, and Vanessa Windes, 20, Wednesday, April 28, and booked them into the Yavapai County Detention Center in Camp Verde on several felony child abuse charges stemming from an incident which allegedly occurred earlier on Tuesday April 20, in the 3800 block of Tumbleweed Drive in Camp Verde.
Verde Valley Medical Center’s staff in Cottonwood became suspicious and notified law enforcement authorities after examining a 3-month-old girl for a nose bleed on April 20. Further examinations revealed the infant had multiple broken bones and internal organ injuries.
Camp Verde Marshal’s Office detectives responded at approximately 10:40 p.m. on April 20 to Emergency Room for a suspected child abuse.
Due to the severity of the injuries, the infant was flown to Phoenix Children’s Hospital for treatment.
After extensive interviews, detectives believe that the infant’s injuries allegedly occurred while in the care of the biological parents, Guillen and Windes.
Guillen and Windes were both charged with one count of intentional child abuse and one count of aggravated assault causing serious injury to their 3-month-old daughter.
At this time, the 3-month-old girl has been released from the medical facility and custody has been taken into custody of the Arizona Department of Child Services.
Additional information will be released by CVMO as it becomes available.
