Doug Von Gausig has filed to run for reelection to his fifth term as mayor of Clarkdale, but is facing a challenger: Robyn Prud’homme-Bauer, chair- woman for the Verde Valley Regional Economic Organization.
Prud’homme-Bauer has been involved in local government in Clarkdale for years, including time on the Planning and Zoning Commission, Design Review Board and Board of Adjustments, as well as working on the annual Made in Clarkdale art show for more than two decades. She is also a volunteer for the League of Women Voters.
“My focus has always been that a strong town has many components to it — not just the people who live here but the people who work here,” Prud’homme-Bauer said. “I’m also a strong proponent of economic development and building and strengthening our businesses here, and making a more diverse business community in Clarkdale that can serve our residents as well as those who come to visit us.”
“Clarkdale is about to be set with some of its most trying times,” Von Gausig said. “The coronavirus is going to have the result of changing the way the town operates, changing the way we get our revenue, changing how businesses operate.”
“Those are infrastructure challenges, how we’ll keep our roads intact, how we’re going to keep our water systems and our sewer systems going, and all of our physical plants,” he said.
There are three council seats open and three candidates. Neither Vice Mayor Richard Dehnert nor Councilman Scott Buckley will run for reelection. Councilwoman Deb Hunseder, who was appointed in 2018 to a two-year term is running for reelection to a full four-year term.
Alicia O’Neill and Marney Babbitt- Pierce seek a two-year term and four- year term, respectively.
