RV fire doused by hoses, fire extinguishers before fire crews arrive

Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office deputies, along with Cottonwood Fire personnel, were dispatched at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 8, to a recreational vehicle fire in the area of the Sheeps Crossing Day Use campground, located southeast of the Verde Villages.

Upon arrival, deputies learned the RV fire was mostly subdued by Good Samaritans from the Thousand Trails RV Park who used fire extinguishers and garden water hoses.

RV fire 3The owner of the burned vehicle believed the fire started in the engine bay and then quickly engulfed the inside of the RV.

RV fire 2It appears the RV was completely destroyed. Exact caused not yet determined.

The driver was able to safely exit the vehicle without serious injuries. There was no damage to the surrounding public land during the incident.
