This is part of a series of Camp Verde Town Council candidate Q&As that will be published over the next weeks
What makes you qualified for a position on the City Council?
Many years of work experience came with me to the Verde Valley 14 years ago. I was able to parlay that into a very successful real estate investment career. I have become an adept problem solver and money manager. I believe if you identify a problem the solution will present itself. I have been diligently attending council meetings and researching budgets and expenditures for almost two years. I have met with many current and former council members and have been given a wealth knowledge and wisdom, which gives me a very clear picture of city affairs and how we can positively move forward.
What makes Cottonwood great?
The obvious answers are the location and weather. But what really makes it great is the people. I am blessed to work and volunteer with some really, really amazing people.
What would be different if you were on the council?
Voting outcomes. Two recent major votes would have had different outcomes and would have been in the best interests of the voters and taxpayers of Cottonwood.
What will you do to keep Cottonwood affordable for its residents?
Fight for budget and spending reforms. We also need to do what we can to hold the line on housing affordability. That’s a major issue for many of our residents.
What is your position on the proposed 0.5 percent sales tax increase the council will be voting on in August?
It’s very well known I was against any increase that did not have a commensurate budget cut from the city. It should be a team effort. I would have supported a 0.25 percent increase if that was the case. It is not. I also strongly believe any increase should not extend to food and clothing. Unfortunately for many of our residents the 0.5 percent increase will be across the board.
