State Route 260 construction progresses on track

Published:

According to the Arizona Department of Transportation, work on widening State Route 260 is more than halfway done.

The project, which started in early 2017, will increase State Route 260 to four lanes from Thousand Trails Road to Industrial Drive just east of Interstate 17 in Camp Verde, and will be completed by the end of the year.

“The new eastbound lanes are nearly complete with the initial layer of paving done on nearly all nine miles,” said Ryan Harding, a spokesperson for ADOT. “The top layer of pavement has been put on roughly half of the new roadway.

“The new bridge over Cherry Creek is also complete.”

The project also includes adding seven roundabouts along the highway, all of which are under construction. Three of them — at Wilshire, Horseshoe Bend and Cherry Creek roads — are expected to open in the next several weeks.

“Also around that time, traffic will be moved to the new eastbound lanes between Wilshire and Horseshoe Bend as well as between Cherry Creek Road and the second of the new roundabouts for future development so crews can begin work on the westbound lanes,” Harding said.

While five of the roundabouts are at already established intersections, ADOT is constructing two that it expects will accommodate future development.
