The Camp Verde Unified School District Governing Board welcomed back a familiar face in Bob Simbric, a former — and now current — board member.
Simbric, who has previously served on the CVUSD Governing Board for many years spanning parts of eight terms, was appointed to the board by Yavapai County School Superintendent Tim Carter following CVUSD treasurer Christine Schneider’s resignation effective Feb. 14.
Schneider stated in her letter of resignation, “Due to recent changes in my family dynamics and continuing work schedule I find that I cannot give focused attention as I have in the past, to be truly effective as a board member.”
“Mr. Simbric fully understands the role of the Governing Board and will work to balance the needs of students, parents, staff, employers and the taxpayer,” Carter stated in a press release. “He has the ability to bring people together to find common ground.”
Simbric was sworn in before the CVUSD Governing Board meeting March 13. His appointment expires Monday, Dec. 31, as the seat is open for the November election cycle.
“We’re glad to have Bob back,” President Tim Roth said during the swearing in. “We’re excited to start this journey with Bob, to have him back in the family.”

Also during the CVUSD meeting, Sebra Choe, economic development specialist for the Town of Camp Verde, spoke to the board about continuing the town and district’s partnership in the student entrepreneurship program.
The program started last year as a standalone Friday program for Camp Verde High School students. Choe recommended a few ways the program could continue and expand, including as a summer camp, a Friday club or as a one-week takeover within a career and technical education class.
“We are absolutely dedicated to student success and their career success,” Choe said. “We would definitely like to see a fruitful partnership continue.”
The board also briefly discussed the district’s strategic plan with administrator-in-charge Danny Howe. Current CVUSD Superintendent Dennis Goodwin is on home assignment and will leave the district at the end of the schol year.
“There was a lot of legwork done with the strategic plan Dr. Goodwin’s first year here,” Howe said. “… A lot of great ideas were thrown out there, a lot of information. I don’t want to lose all of that because there was a lot of stakeholder input. There were a lot of good ideas that never came to fruition with all of the other things that were going on.”
Howe said administration is meeting to revisit those ideas to organize and fill out the strategic plan.
“This plan that we’re coming up with, it needs to be addressing who Camp Verde Unified School District is,” Howe said. “We want to put that together and really make it ours.”
