CVHS kids win MATForce contest

Published:

What better way to get the word out than to advertise during the Super Bowl? Using this time-honored strategy, six students enrolled in Camp Verde High School’s Graphic and Web Design class recently outdid themselves in trying to curb underage drinking.

“We have won another contest, putting us on the map and money in our students’ pockets,” CVHS Graphic Design Teacher Tina Scott said. “As always, we entered one of the annual contests MATForce puts on for schools within Yavapai County.”

MATForce is a Yavapai County-based anti-drug advocacy organization.

“This particular contest is a design for pizza box art that conveys MATForce’s underage drinking campaign,” Scott said. “Pizza restaurants from around the county place the winning artwork on their boxes being delivered over the busy Super Bowl weekend.”

CVHS’ William Schultz placed first in the Advanced Category, winning $100 and some major exposure.

“[This is] a fabulous way for our budding graphic designers to have their work displayed across our community,” Scott added. “Not only were we able to win the top prize again, but several other intermediate and advanced design students were able to clench a secondary prize.”

According to Scott, the following CVHS students won $10 Amazon.com gift cards in the advanced and intermediate categories:

  • Nick Daniels, Advanced Category
  • Daniel Killman, Advanced Category
  • Daniel Carley, Intermediate Category
  • Colten Cecil, Intermediate Category
  • Rafael Gonzales, Intermediate Category

“If you happen to see one of our design students on campus, please congratulate them,” Scott said.
