Never let it be said that Mountain View Preparatory is a dull school.
Last week, students were greeted back to school after Christmas break by running a cheerful gauntlet of teachers and staff. To close out the week, students earned the right to see their teachers — and possibly their principal — get pied in the face.
On Friday, Jan. 6, MVP held a McTeacher’s night fundraising event that earned nearly $500 in cookie sales alone. With an additional 20 percent of all food sale proceeds from McDonald’s going to the school, MVP totaled approximately $1,500.
“It’s a good school and I like it, so to raise money means we get more stuff in class, like new pencils and other things,” MVP student Avery Whitesitt said.
Of course, many students came not to raise funds but to beat out classmates in the same grade — a fact Whitesitt readily admits.
“That’s also another reason I wanted to come here, to get my teacher pied,” he said, adding that he hoped to see it happen during the Friday, Jan. 13, assembly.
According to MVP PTA Secretary John Gummo-Wagner, organizers knew to expect a hearty cookie sale. In other such events, cookies have accounted for at least half the funds raised.
“We told them to order a lot, because we knew we’d sell a lot.” MVP Principal Stephanie Jones said. “I think we ordered about 600.”
As of press time, the Cottonwood Journal Extra received no word on whether Jones will be pied.
