One man is dead after a shooting Friday, Oct. 14, in Rimrock.
The alleged shooter, a 17-year-old boy from Cottonwood, has been booked at the Prescott Juvenile Detention Center on charges including murder, armed robbery, burglary, aggravated assault and kidnapping.
The victim has been identified as 25-year-old Jarrod Rogers.
The shooting occurred at approximately 11:45 p.m. Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to the 4000 block of E. Airport Drive in Rimrock. Following the shooting, the suspect fled the scene.
According to YCSO Media Relations Coordinator Dwight D’Evelyn, no vehicle was seen or heard. Rogers died at the scene.
Rogers’ wife, who was also present at the time, was assaulted but not seriously injured.
“Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Bureau have been on scene since early this morning to investigate,” D’Evelyn stated early on Oct. 15. “At this time, it appears the victim may have been targeted.”
By the afternoon of Oct. 15, YCSO detectives had been advised that a man was being treated at Verde Valley Medical Center for a gunshot wound to his leg.
Detectives contacted the boy, who claimed to have been shot by an unknown suspect in an unrelated incident.
“After an extensive interview, the 17-year-old suspect finally admitted he shot the victim on E. Airport Drive in Rimrock during an attempted robbery,” D’Evelyn stated. “Detectives believe the suspect may have accidentally shot himself during his confrontation with the victim, but this aspect of the investigation has not been confirmed.”
Following treatment at VVMC, the suspect was released to the custody of detectives and booked at the Prescott Juvenile Detention Center.
D’Evelyn did not take phone calls throughout the weekend and did not respond to further media inquiries by press deadline.
