Page Springs Cellars and the city of Cottonwood are teaming up again for the third annual Tilted Earth Festival, Thursday, June 16, through Saturday, June 18.
According to Eric Glomski, founder and director of Page Springs Cellars, Arizona Stronghold Vineyards, the provisioner and Tilted Earth, the festival was established to “foster the growth of culture, community and the economy by bringing together artisans in the fields of craft drink, food, music and the fine arts.”
This year, he and fellow festival organizers have added some interesting ingredients into the mix.
First off, camping at Riverfront Park.
“One of the challenges having this in Cottonwood is hotel space,” Glomski said. As a result, he worked with the city to allow not only tents to camp during the festival, but RVs and glamping, a blending of the words “glamour” and “camping” referring to a style of camping that includes luxuries atypical to traditional camping, including bathroom facilities and, in some cases, even air conditioning.
Second to this year’s festival: Beer and craft cocktails.
“People kept saying, ‘We want beer,’” Glmoski said, adding that during the summer months demand for cold drinks goes up during the day. “Also, I’m a wine maker, but I’ve really been excited about the craft cocktail movement …. We want people to be able to enjoy wine, but that becomes more of an evening drink. Beer and craft cocktails will be the daytime drinks.”
Glomski has developed five wine cocktails, some featuring local herbs. A whole tent will be dedicated to his wine mixology this year.
The third addition to this year’s festival is a teen zone, which Glomski developed after realizing that “teenagers are often stuck in this sort of purgatory” when it comes to festivals. He wanted to provide something for them, and thus he has plans for a tent just for teenagers, complete with video games and other activities. An extreme sports expo may also appeal to that demographic, Glomski added.
“Certainly, we view this as a community event,” he said.
To that end, the final major change in this year’s event will be its layout. We’ve changed the whole dynamic, centering it around a village design,” Glmoski said. “Each village will be a mix of food trucks, artists, sponsors and drinks with more seating in each village. …. We’re trying to continually improve the atmosphere.”
