Camp Verde youth football teams prepare for playoffs

Published:

Every Camp Verde Youth Football player has been along for the ride on two intriguing teams going into their regular season finale Saturday, Oct. 17.

After splitting their first four games, trading home blowouts for road losses in which they were just as dominated, the Camp Verde Coyotes Mighty Mites team won its second straight game Saturday, Oct. 3, by a touchdown over the visiting Seahawks from Cottonwood, 32-25.

The Camp Verde Minors team with the same mascot hasn’t fared as well the last two weeks, scoring just 12 points each game in losses at Wickenburg by six and Oct. 3 by 29 at Sam Hammerstrom Field to the Cottonwood Colts.

Both teams, composed of 50 players after successfully petitioning CVYF not to have cuts, will attempt to go into the Northern Arizona Youth Football playoffs Saturday, Oct. 24, with a high seed and a home win over the Bagdad Razorbacks beginning at 10 a.m. Oct. 17.

After receiving the handoff, 7-year-old Jordan Falmer runs the ball, deftly avoiding the Cottonwood Seahawks defense. The teams played Saturday, Oct. 3, on the Camp Verde High School field, with Camp Verde winning 35-27.
