Camp Verde church provides book bags for kids

Published:

A local church is stepping up to provide book bags for students just before the school year starts up again.

It’s not just a book bag, though. Each back is stuffed with school supplies, pencils, notebooks and almost anything else a student could use.

The church has been organizing this campaign for several years, the Rev. Rick Carling said, and the event has grown each year.

Last year the church gave out more than 100 book bags.

“This year, we expect to give away at least 125,” Carling said.

It’s an additional boon to students and their families because school supplies aren’t always cheap.

“No, they’re not,” said Tina Davis, who works behind the church office desk and also stays active working with the children in the church.
