The Clarkdale-Jerome School has made do on the diamond to an undefeated tune this spring.

With the exception of one disputed tie, new volunteer head coach Joel Rosenberg has the Mingus Rams softball team rolling. After dispatching Pine Strawberry Elementary School at home, 16-6, Clarkdale has won all four of its other games.

It is a roll Rosenberg, a Verde Valley Fire District paramedic, believes he and assistant coaches Nate Dixon and Janae Gordon can stay on through the Verde Valley League tournament championship.

“It didn’t seem, when I took over, that there had been a lot of motivation to take the finals,” he said. “It may sound arrogant, but if you don’t shoot for the ultimate goal, you might be selling yourself short.

“Some coaches have this attitude, ‘I just want a winning season.’ My goal for the end of the year is to hang a banner with the girls’ names on it in the gym.”
